Xavier Willis worked for many years for the Kentish Express and accompanied Sir Charles Igglesden on his saunters through Kent and was the illustrator for many of his books. The two lots come with a letter from A.S.Francis Editor of the Kengtish Express: 'Xavier Willis's real bent was pen and ink drawings... but his lovely watercolours (note his watercolours go for around £300 this is an oil and rare )were well sought after... Xavier was a keen cricketer, played regularly for the office team, and for this reason he was nicknamed Ranji.' Ranji was the popular name for Ranjitsinhji, The Maharaja of Nawanager, a famous cricketer who played for England and as well as being one of the greatest batsmen of all time, was an outstanding fielder.
