Description: GEORGE WRIGHTBritish, 1860-1942 BIOGRAPHY George Wright began his career as an illustrator and had his first exhibit at the Royal Academy in 1892. He had moved from his native Leeds to Rugby by 1901, where he painted many of his well known polo pictures. By 1908, Wright was living in Oxford; and in 1929 he moved to Richmond, Surrey where he hunted with the Surrey and Old Burstow.Wright was under commission from Ackermann & Sons and had regular exhibitions there. In her Dictionary of British Equestrian Artists, Sally Mitchell describes George Wright as a painter of "superb horse portraits and very good action pictures, particularly of hunting and coaching. His work was strong and well finished... He was one of the best sporting painters of his time." (Sally Mitchell, The Dictionary of British Equestrian Artists, Woodbridge, 1985.
